Christian Slade

An artist that has inspired me is Christian Slade who is a full time freelance artist who has been working on a woodland fantasy about a young girl named Ivy, and her Korgi called Sprout which is a silent graphic novel called “Korgi” which has developed from his strong connection with his two dogs penny and leo which are Corgi’s. As Korgi is a silent graphic novel the whole story is told through actions and facial expressions which I think will have a link to my work as horses can’t speak their entire communication is done through body language and expression.
the sequential part of christian slades work korgi also has an impact on my work as i like doing sequential and learn a lot while looking at different sequential layouts such as this

Spirit stallion of the cimeron

Theme being establishing a bond between horse and person at first the horse don't trust/like the person but the person likes the horse and wants to be friends through a series of events the horse gets to trust the person and creating an unbreakable bond.

Spirit Stallion of the Cimeron -one of my most faverate animated films about a wild stallion that saw a light in the distance and went to investigate the sorce, but got captured by man then they tried to forcefully break in the stallion but could not but a decouta called little creek helps spirit escape with him then trys to gain the spirits trust so that he can ride him but only through a long string of events/life saving events little creek creates a bond with spirit but lets him go back to his heard although both did not want to see each other go they know they belong in different places but before spirit leaves little creek names spirit - spirit that could not be broken.

two videos of clips from the movie showing an atempt to forcefully break in the stallion (first video) and the slowly gaining the trust through time and patients

black beauty

the incredible journey

I know a lot of horse body language due to working with horses for some time but thought i would look into the horses ears some more to see if there is some things that i do not know

through my survey someone mentioned a book they read as a child called My summer with tommy so i tried to find out more about it but could only find a book on amazon but this is what was said about it -

Summer with Tommy: Training a Wild Pony (Puffin Books)Paperback– 25 Mar 1976

  • Paperback: 112 pages
  • Publisher: Puffin Books; New edition edition (25 Mar 1976)

  • This is a brillant book! It tells the story of a young girl that breaks in a wild pony. I read it as a child and have recently read it again as I am now breaking in my own horse.

    Andy Runton
    owly
the owly comic is a fun silent graphic novel showing  a little owl and his little worm friend who over come small problems like all the plants wont fit in the green house so they have to find a solution

the images are set in boxes and never stray from this format and is pure black and white but the thought bubbles do go out side the boxes breaking up the box feel a bit.

the whole story is in black and white but there are colour images of this comic either for the covers or just because the artist wanted to colour in some. the limited use of colour in these colour images made me think that I could explore this as you don't need loads of detail to make a story in fact to much detail could distract from what's important
    George Stubbs
paints horses such as whistle jacket
I looked at stubbs because I wanted to see at his use of colour foucessing on how he uses shadows and highlights to impact the form of the horse

this painting contains several horses within a background and but I mainly wanted to study the use of colour within this painting as the brown horse have strong shadows that at counter by some strong highlights and the white horse has some brown and cream used in it to make the horse seem more life like with better from making it not look flat

this painting shows the strength of the horse through the stance with the mane and tail flowing forward so the it gives the impression of the horse suddenly pulling back as it see the lion the strength of the horse is also created by the defined muscles
the painting is of the horse whistle jacket and shows how the highlights can help make the horses form look 3D with a strong contrast in the shadows and highlights
    Matsuri Hino
manga - Vampire knight - Muri Puri - Wanted - Toraware no Minoue
Matsuri is one of my favourate manga artists her story lines and art just make you want more. how  she lays out the panels has a big impact on the way the story flows and I think that through reading her work I have learnt a lot about ways to set out panels to make the flow better and impact on whats happening.
